JULY 2008
July 25 (F) – World Premiere (as librettist and narrator). The Philadelphia Orchestra will give the premier performance of Kabo Omowale (Welcome Home Child). The work grew out of the workshops I facilitated with the Linden Elders Center in Camden, NJ. I created a text based on the contributions and input of the workshop participants. It’s the first text I have written that has been orchestrated and written for choir. I selected the highly accomplished composer, Andrea Clearfield. The result of our collaboration is a work for spoken word, chorus and orchestra. If you are a friend, musician, storyteller, arts connoisseur – this performance is NOT TO BE MISSED! This final Philadelphia Orchestra Camden Community Concert is FREE. Performance time is 7pm at the Gordon Theater on the campus of Rutgers Univ. (For you Philly folks, that’s right under the BF bridge)
Additional participants: Students from the Camden Creative Arts HS Choir, members of the Temple Music Prep choir, members of the Christina Cultural Arts Center (Wilmington, DE) Community Choir, and members of The Philadelphia Singers. Rossen Milanov will conduct. For info: Call 215-893-1900 or visit
**Post concert note: Thanks to everyone who came to support this wonderful concert. We could not have imagined the incredible response to the work we received from the audience and those comments we are still getting via email!! It was also given a favorable review by David Patrick Stearns in the Magazine Section of the July 29th Philadelphia Inquirer. Thank you all!! See you in the Fall!
