This will be my 16th consecutive year participating in this annual community celebration of the life, work and memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I will once again be narrating excerpts of his ‘Dream’ speech to the orchestra’s brilliant accompaniment. I am truly honored to have been invited to narrate Leonard Bernstein’s KADDISH (Symphony No. 3). Bernstein’s emotional work was created after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Through the traditional practice of Kaddish – intense and vigorous prayer – Bernstein questions God’s faithfulness in the midst of turmoil on earth. ¬†Ironically, the work premiered on December 10, 1963 – my 15th birthday. I am pleased to have been invited back to Utah for a week of school and community programs and workshops. School programs are not open to the public. Contact the Timpanogos Institute if you are interested in attending a program.
