Violinist Diane Monroe has created this new work as a “musical memoir that bridges jazz, classical and traditional African music to reveal an African-American violinist’s trials and triumphs. A genre-defying artist, Diane has collaborated with standout artists from varying traditions including Malian virtuoso kora player Yacouba Sissoko and banjoist Ayodele Maakheru. I crafted and will narrate the spoken text. Violin Woman, African Dreams has been supported by a grant from the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage. For full details, visit Diane’s website at: www.dianemonroemusic.com. Performances will be at the Historic Cliveden of the National Trust in the Germantown Section of Philadelphia.
